Waldeck’s enigmatic work is
sometimes dark and other times humorous. The collection shows
the breadth of material and content the artist employs in his
practice while illustrating a constant use of provocative
material. By juxtaposing characters, objects, and architectural
settings together in a Post-Surrealistic manner, Waldeck
combines the ordinary with the fantastic. His use of
iconographic imagery such as soldiers, cowboys, and dancers
conceptually addresses concerns of a cultural reliance on
messages and images in the realm of popular culture.

For Waldeck, the selection and
translation of images begins as an intuitive exploration. The lack of a clear
answer to unraveling all of the motivations behind his work gives the artwork
itself an opportunity to have a random and willful quality. This working
methodology allows relationships between images, objects, and subject matter to
develop of their own accord. |
